Toni McGreachan - Biography
Toni is female, not male. She has a couple of obsessions, swimmers and stars. She has successfully joined the two together in her series of painting, ‘Constellations’. This body of work continues to be very successful, drawing the viewer in to their azure world. The swimmers all wear bathing caps, the caps denoting the positions of stars in the night sky in either real or imagined constellations. The flat blue background acts as a foil for the abstract marks used to emphasise the movement of the body in the water. They create a peaceful world with imagined conversations between the bathers.
Sometimes Toni paints individual swimmers on a large scale. These pieces are few and far between and highly sought after. Her most recent work focuses on young competitive swimmers training for the 2012 British Olympic Team. Toni works regularly as an artist in residence in London schools in addition to her work as director of an international arts group called Eddy where she curates exhibitions with other artists from the UK and abroad.
