I am now getting excited about the AAF, Battersea! We have some fantastic work coming in and great new artists to introduce to you.
Two fresh artists to NBA are Betty Bilston and Juliette Purdy. Both artists take vintage material and add their own subtle twist. Betty breaths new life into vintage finds to produce attractive new artworks with a contemporary edge. Juliette has exhibited with NBA for the past year and her quirky observational sculptures have been consistent best sellers at exhibitions. We now have a few new pieces available online and more available at the AAF.
Back by popular demand is Jack Richards. One of our best selling artists at last year's AAF and again at Chelsea Art Fair this year I must admit even I was taken by surprise by the variety of buyers for his work. I had assumed this would appeal most to young viewers but was proved wrong at Chelsea where most were, shall we say, of a certain age - buying because these amusing scenarios made from old toy cars and lead toys reminded them of their youth.
Mick Dean was one of our first finds, now almost ten years ago. His beautifully crafted oil paintings are even better in the flesh than they are on the screen. His understanding of light, shade and atmosphere comes from his background in photography and I have yet to see another artist achieve such stunning results.
Lorraine Berkshire-Roe continues to make the most covetable papier maché Birds on Biscuits, large scale dogs and now Biscuit Boxes. Lorraine's work exudes a warm and sense of humour which is evident in her daytime activity as an illustrator of children's books.
I do hope you can come to the fair. All the Private View tickets have now gone, but I have some tickets left for the Late View Evening from 5.30-9.30pm on Thursday 20 October. This ticket allows free entry for two people on the night and also at any time during the course of the fair. Contact me and I will arrange for a ticket to be left on the Reception Desk at the fair for you to collect on the day.
