Brenda Parsons - Biography
Brenda Parsons is just the kind of artist we like to find - a mature student!
Brenda trained as a geographer and geologist, and so has a great interest in international cultures and world environments. She is an avid photographer, collector and sketch-book creator. She has enjoyed a career in education, as a teacher, adviser and laterly Schools Inspector. She made use of spare time by studying textiles, gaining a Distinction in her Diploma in Stitched Textiles. She now works full time as an artist, with studios in the UK and France.
Brenda has hit the floor running. Her meticulous attention to detail, down to producing her own handmade papers, has already seen her work in the Permanent Collection of Paper Art Works in Korea. She has been awarded a Licentiate of the Society of Craftsmen in 2010 and has featured in Embroidery magazine. She has an international exhibition schedule for 2011.
Using a subtle, muted colour palette Brenda draws together disparage elements from her lifelong interests. Treasured found objects like vintage postcards, buttons, hatpins, books and maps are arranged alongside her handmade papers and embroidery to evoke bygone times and lost relationships.
