artist's biography

Biography

Christopher Wynford Etherington Johnson studied at the Chelsea School of Art in the early 1970’s. He is a psychologist and specialises in the field of Energy Psychology and past life regression.

Although he has always kept his hand in over the years with water colour work and drawing, he felt a compulsion to return to oils in his newly inspired artistic endeavour.  Paul Cezanne's work and approach were always a fascination in the past with Chris and he has adopted Cezanne's methodology if not his style.  Fundamental concepts that Cezanne attempted to portray and explore were the use of colour, the use of 'space' on the canvas, the principle of implied movement, the generation of an emotional or sensory awareness, and the stimulation of the viewer's sense of time being in captured.

Although Chris's paintings could be regarded superficially as landscapes each canvas also hints at an untold story - a psychological drama.
