artist's biography
“The current work attempts to convey concepts of identity and displaced origin. The use of watercoloour, more usually associated with traditional landscape painting, helps communicate shifting mental landscapes.
The paintings show an awareness of a society where our emotional and physical being is constantly subject to an image conscious advertising culture.
Screen print stencils, map-like lines and blocks of colour mask parts of the paintings, showing that which is at once both public and private. The paintings question the extent to which we attempt to disguise those parts of ourselves which we consider to be flawed, implying confidential imagined spaces that are sometimes naive, uncomfortable and normally deliberately hidden”.
