artist's biography
“I am a contemporary abstract painter and my paintings are essentially an engagement with materials and processes.
My aim is to create works which disclose a variety of nuance in surface detail and colour and in this body of work I am investigating the dynamic tensions which exist between the conflicting forces of order and chaos, freedom and confinement.
I embrace the strong element of chance which exists within my art. my method of pouring paint allows me to distance myself from the painting, although the apparently uncontrolled and arbitrary methods which I employ disguise a structured and highly disciplined approach to my work.
By using a limited palette of vibrant pigments which mix and coalesce, it is my intention to give the impression of an explosion of colour and spontaneous expressive energy, by which the painting, almost of its own volition, breaks free from human intervention.”
